Senior portraits are an opportunity to showcase your unique personality and style. Choosing the perfect outfits for senior photos can make all the difference. With these tips, you can confidently select outfits that will complement your location, showcase your personality, and most importantly, make you look and feel amazing!
When selecting your outfits for senior photos, make sure to take into consideration the location/s of your photo shoot. Opt for a more casual or bohemian look in a natural setting, or choose an edgier outfit with bold colors or patterns in an urban setting. If you will be shooting at multiple locations, this may allow you to wear a wider variety of looks.
When it comes to colors, I suggest neutrals as they are classic and timeless. Neutral colors also photograph beautifully and are universally flattering.
However, I also love to suggest that one of your outfits have a small or LARGE pop of color to it! This could take the form of a bright pink dress or a bright red top with white jeans… the options are endless!
In order to have an amazing variety in your final senior gallery, you’ll want to choose outfits from several different categories such as preppy, fancy, casual, edgy, and sporty. This will allow you to showcase different aspects of your personality and create a unique and personalized portfolio of photos.
Showcase your love for a favorite band or sport with a t-shirt or accessory, or choose an outfit that highlights your physique and love for your hobby.
Don’t be afraid to add a dress that is long or has plenty of movement to it, even if you normally aren’t a dress person. A flowy dress will add elegance and femininity to your portraits, allowing for more dynamic and fluid poses. The dress skirt will add movement to your photos, which is the ultimate secret to having stand-out senior portraits.
Get inspired by searching out ideas for outfits for senior photos on social media platforms like Pinterest and Instagram! Don’t be afraid to copy styles that you see and love.
Last but not least: consider the temperature at the time of year you’ll be taking your pictures, and choose fabrics and layers accordingly. I photograph seniors all the way into November, and here in New England sweaters and pants/long-sleeved dresses are a MUST at that time of year! Luckily, sweaters are incredibly flattering in photos, and nothing to shy away from if your session is in the fall. In fact, many seniors purposely book their pictures with me in the fall just so that they can wear cute sweaters and boots!
With these tips, I hope that you can confidently select outfits for your senior portraits that result in the stunning pictures you deserve to have taken.
