It’s “that” time of year and you are beginning your search for the absolute best senior photographer! Where do you even start?! Your parents will likely have a say in the matter, so you’ll want to do your research thoroughly. That way, you can bring your favorite options to them before the discussion even begins!

Finding The Best Senior Photographer to Fit Your Needs

1. Decide on the photography style you love

There are so many different photography styles out there today. “Dark and moody,” “light and airy,” and everything in between!! Some styles can result in super oversaturated colors and nearly orange skin tones, which might look cool and trendy in the moment. However, will those photos hold up to the test of time? What I mean by that is, do you want to choose a more timeless style of photography? It’s up to you! A good way to decide what style of photography you like is to just look around Pinterest for ideas!

2. Ask your friends

Check out senior pictures of your friends who had them done last summer or fall. If you see any that jump out at you, jot down that photographer’s name and head to their website to check them out.

3. Do a simple google search or search Instagram hashtags

Search “senior photographer near me” on google and see what pops up. Visit the websites of the photographers who live within your vicinity. Make sure they specialize in working with high school seniors. In addition, find their senior portfolio and ensure they have lots and lots of examples that you love. An alternate way to search for the best senior photographer for you is to search Instagram hashtags for things like “Scituate senior photographer,” “Massachusetts senior photographer,” “South Shore senior portraits,” etc.

4. Narrow down your search

Keep a list going of all the photographers you discover that you love. Then, find out what kind of packages they offer and what their prices are like. You’ll probably need to ask your parents how much they are willing to spend. Since these pictures are so important, they may be willing to spend more than you think!

5. Think about how you want your senior session to “flow”

How do you imagine your session being? Do you envision it being very posed? Spending the entire hour stiffly smiling for the camera? Or do you envision working with a photographer who will pose you in flattering ways and then give you movement directions to capture gorgeous candid moments? Everyone has a different idea of how they’d like their senior portraits to look. I personally lean towards the fun way of doing things! Read about each photographer on their website “about me” section, read the captions they post on Instagram, and watch the reels they have created. This will give you an idea of their personality and how they will act at your session! In addition, you could always give each photographer a call and chat with him or her on the phone!

6. Read their reviews!

The number one way to find out about who will be the best senior photographer for you is to read what others have to say about them! It shouldn’t be hard to find client testimonials for the photographers you are interested in. If it IS hard to find reviews, then “Houston, we have a problem!” The best places to look for reviews of your photographer are their google profile and their website.
