Be Comfortable for Your Cohasset Senior Pictures!

If you do not like fitted clothing (super tight dresses or tops) then leave them at home! If there are pieces in your closet that make you feel self-conscious or uncomfortable, don’t include them in your senior portrait wardrobe! Additionally, we will most likely be sitting on the ground, laying down, walking, and doing other things that could be difficult if your clothing is uncomfortable! Amelia did a GREAT job of wearing comfortable clothing for her senior pictures.

Be Conscious of What Colors You Wear

The camera loves sophisticated colors. I recommend light-colored neutrals, pastels, or jewel tones for your senior pictures. When choosing colors for your outfits, I recommend selecting lighter, neutral tones and more muted shades. Bright, bold or neon colors are distracting and take the focus away from where it should be: YOU! A neon shade or bold shade will also reflect strange colors back up onto your face. Because of this, your skin tone could look strange in your photos. You can never go wrong with light neutral colors like cream, taupe, camel or light gray. The camera loves shades of soft pinks and muted blues, mixed with sophisticated light-colored neutrals. That softer, more pastel-leaning color palette fits beautifully into almost all natural outdoor environments. I personally adore whites and beiges, and Amelia hit this out of the park!

Layer it Up!

In the colder months, adding layers to your outfits always looks STUNNING in portraits! A sweater with a flannel underneath paired with a vest and a statement necklace or scarf adds so much dimension to your images and makes for super fun posing options! Even in the warmer months, you can add these layers and dimension by wearing a tank top with a cute sheer cardigan or by throwing a denim jacket over a dress!

Add Some Texture!

Sometimes textures like sequins, furs, and sparkles can be considered “daring” or “over the top,” but in portraits, they are AWESOME! Adding texture to your outfits makes the biggest difference, and it prevents YOUR images from looking dull! Combining textures that you may not normally use together can look amazing. For example sequins and cable knit sweaters, or leather and fur make GREAT pairs! The sky is definitely the limit when it comes to texture combos!

Accessorize Accessorize Accessorize!

During a senior session, or any photo shoot, the more accessories the merrier! When planning your outfits, don’t forget to plan and bring accessories! Stacks of bangles, long necklaces, statement pieces, scarves, hats, bright shoes, and other add-ons can make or break an outfit! Additionally, accessories also can provide you with something to do with your hands and make for super cute shots for your senior pictures!

Location Tips

For your senior pictures location, think outside the box!

As an experienced Cohasset senior portrait photographer, my suggestion is to not be afraid to think outside the box! I encourage you to brainstorm unique places that you might have special access to that most people don’t. For example, maybe you (or someone you know) have access to an amazing location that would otherwise be off-limits, like a beautiful private estate, family ranch, exclusive country club or yacht club, or luxury resort. Spend a few minutes thinking about it and checking around with people in your personal and professional network. Post on Facebook! You may be surprised with what you come up with! If something seems unlikely, just remember, you never know until you ask! If you need some location ideas and inspiration, I have plenty!

Check out my Instagram and the rest of my blog. If there’s a certain session you really love, just let me know which one and we can go to that location! I do charge a fee to travel outside of 15 miles from Scituate, so just be aware of that!

The Senior Picture Run Down

Do you want to know what senior pictures are like with Christina Runnals? Let me go over how the whole process works!

Book Your Session

The first step is to book your session.  To book your senior pictures with me, click here, fill out the form, and choose an available date.  I will send you and your parent an invoice and contract.  You’ll need to pay the deposit ($150) within 48 hours to secure your spot.  Once you have paid your deposit, you are officially booked! If you have not paid your deposit after 48 hours, your spot could go to someone else on my waitlist! I have to do it this way to be fair to everyone. So make sure you take care of that ASAP!

Planning your Session with Your Cohasset Senior Portrait Photographer

We will chat by phone, text, or email about outfit ideas, my hair and makeup artist recommendations for you, and location ideas that are tailored to your personality and ideas!  I will send you my Style Guide that will give you ALL the tips and tricks you will need to know to have an amazing senior portrait session.

Your Session!

Today’s the big day!  For your senior pictures, we will in most cases meet just before “golden hour” (about 2 hours before sunset). Next, we will shoot for 1-2 hours depending on the package you selected.  We’ll be doing lots of laughing, hair twirling, slow walking, looking off camera, and giving the camera gorgeous soft smiles – don’t worry, I will guide you through ALL the posing!

The Gallery

After your session, I go through all of your images and select the best 80-120 photos to present to you in an online gallery. From there, you may choose your favorite 25-45 photos and I will carefully edit and lightly digitally retouch your favorites with all the latest high-end software. Your edited images will be uploaded to a private online gallery where you can easily download your high-resolution digital photographs to post, print, and order products such as canvases, photo books, and beautiful wooden keepsake boxes!  I aim to give you the BEST experience possible for your senior pictures!

Where to Shop for your Senior Session

I have a few favorite spots to shop when it comes to pictures! First off is Cattivo, located in downtown North Scituate. Cattivo is where Amelia found this adorable dress for her shoot. In fact, it is the shop where MANY of my seniors find their outfits for their senior pictures! Another shop my seniors have had great luck at is the website Hello Molly. In addition, I also love Asos, Vici Collection, and Lulus.

Client Feedback

One of my favorite parts of my job is hearing amazing feedback from my photography clients! Amelia’s mom Diane said: “Christina made taking senior photos a super fun event! Her enthusiasm and ability to connect with my daughter made for a wonderful experience. The photos were all completely outstanding – so hard to choose! Christina is professional, her website easy to make business happen and she is on top of following up/through. Highly recommend working with Christina – she is extremely talented.”
