As you prepare for your senior portrait session, you want to make sure you’re taking advantage of all the beautiful natural light available. One great time for a photo shoot is at sunrise when the light is soft and flattering. That’s why today I am excited to share with you my favorite tips on how to prepare for taking senior pictures at sunrise! If you are new to my blog, welcome. I’m Christina Runnals, a senior portrait photographer specializing in photography that is light-filled and natural. If you’d like to learn more about my senior packages and book your own senior session, head to the homepage of my website now.
If you’re planning on taking your senior pictures at sunrise, it’s a good idea to stay close to the location of your photoshoot. You don’t want to have to wake up extra early and drive a long distance in the dark. Staying overnight will allow you to be well-rested and ready to go when it’s time for your shoot. Some of my clients from out of town will stay with a South Shore friend or relative, and others will book a nearby hotel or Air BNB.
Since your photoshoot will be at sunrise, it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to find a hair and makeup artist who is willing to wake up and meet you so early in the morning. Plan on doing your own hair and makeup ahead of time. In addition, be sure to practice your look before the day of the shoot! Keep in mind that you may need to touch up your makeup during the shoot, so bring a small bag with your essentials.
The sunrise lighting can be tricky. Therefore, it’s a good idea to consult with your photographer on what colors will look best in the early morning light. Your photographer may suggest wearing neutral colors, as they will reflect the soft light of sunrise beautifully
While the sunrise light can be beautiful, it can also be chilly. Be sure to check the weather forecast ahead of time and dress appropriately. If you’re planning your photo session for early in the morning during a cooler month, consider wearing layers and bringing a jacket to stay warm. However, if you plan your session for a warm month such as June, July, or August, you’ll be more likely to feel comfortable in the early morning temperatures.
In conclusion, taking senior pictures at sunrise can be a beautiful and unique experience. By following the above tips, you’ll be well-prepared and ready to make the most of your sunrise photo shoot. Good luck and have fun!
If you’re an upcoming senior looking to have your picture printed in your yearbook, the best time to schedule your session is during the summer before your senior year or in the early autumn of your senior year. It’s essential to contact me as soon as possible to secure a spot. I recommend booking at least four months in advance. Many of my clients often reserve their sessions up to a year ahead of time to get their desired slot. Sunrise senior pictures typically can be booked without quite as much notice.
Often, my clients ask me, “Which month is the best for senior photos?” Well, as I mentioned previously, June, July, or August are best for senior pictures at sunrise. For sunset, I prefer September or early October personally. These months are consistently less humid and buggy. If you find yourself booking at the last minute and can’t get your desired date, don’t worry! There are options for mid-day sessions, which will still result in gorgeous photos. Additionally, I have a waitlist that you can join to stay updated on any available spots that arise.
