Taryn’s Rhode Island Beach Senior Pictures

I am SO excited to share some of my favorites from Taryn’s gorgeous Rhode Island beach senior pictures! Just look at the pictures and you will clearly be able to see why I am so excited to share them! Two random facts about Taryn!

1. She is an absolute all-star softball player.

2. She (and her family) told me, (and I quote), she is “really bad at taking pictures.” LOL!

The locations

Taryn’s Rhode Island beach senior pictures began at a beautiful golden field location.  Oh how I LOVE how that light shimmers in tall grasses!!!  Fields are some of my all-time favorite places to shoot sessions, particularly during golden hour.  You do need to make sure your photographer knows the exact right time to take your photos. If the timing is off your photos will be hazy. Most fields in New England do not photograph best right at “golden hour.” Golden hour is better saved for the beach.

After we snapped those golden field beauties, we hit the beach to wrap up Taryn’s gorgeous session.  I love the look of tall beach grasses so I always make sure to begin a beach session with beach grasses in the background. I highly recommend two locations for your senior pictures. You have *very* few times in your life when you will have professional pictures taken of yourself. This is why I always say treat yourself and go big for these pictures!!! Keep scrolling to see some of Taryn’s Rhode Island beach senior pictures that I chose as my favorites!

Onto the Beach!

Taryn’s senior pictures were taken on such a beautiful day. It was a bit windy at the beach. As you can see though, the wind really added some gorgeous movement to our photos.

What You Should Know About Rhode Island Beach Senior Pictures

As a photographer living in the beautiful seaside town of Scituate, you can imagine how many requests I get for beach senior pictures! Basically, ALL of my requests are for beach pictures! There are some important things to know about taking pictures at the beach.

It’s okay if the sun isn’t out for your beach pictures

While I personally prefer sunshine for my pictures, it’s actually okay if the sun doesn’t make an appearance for your photos. This is because regardless of sun or not, the light colored sand will reflect light back onto your skin. The light reflected onto your skin will create a gorgeous effect in your pictures. However, as I said, I do prefer sun and am happy to reschedule my senior sessions if the sun is going to be absent.

Wind is okay for beach senior pictures, but not too much wind!

As I mentioned, Taryn’s session was a bit windy. In fact, you can pretty much depend that your beach session will be windy! I love a little wind, it adds movement to your hair, shirts, and dresses. Movement draws in the human eye and makes for epically stunning pictures. However, TOO much wind can really negatively effect your pictures. This is part of the reason I always suggest booking your pictures before the end of October. Once the fall hits, it can become quite windy at the beach! One solution is to bring along an adorable hat for your session, like a trendy fedora!

Some beaches photograph better than others at sunset

Because we are on the east coast, unfortunately the sun does not set on the water at the majority of our beaches. This is something to keep in mind for your Rhode Island beach senior pictures!

One of my favorite parts of this job is the joy my images bring to the wonderful people I get to work with!  Hearing what they have to say is always the highlight of my day!  Taryn’s mother said:

“I can’t thank you enough Christina!  Taryn is over the moon obsessed with these. You have a true gift.  I love how you captured posed moments, but also candid moments that capture her personality perfectly.  We will cherish these photos forever!”
