I am so excited to share a few of my favorite photos from baby Caroline’s sweet newborn session to the blog today! Look at all that hair!!! She is the CUTEST! And is so loved already, this little family makes my heart melt! As a lifestyle newborn photographer, I was absolutely delighted to capture these beautiful moments.

If you have a lot of natural light in your home and light colored walls, your home may be the perfect environment for a lifestyle newborn photographer to do their work! In my opinion, sessions in your own home are so very special. This is because you and your child will look at these pictures someday and see how rooms in your home *actually* looked. We will document you and your family doing things you *actually* did at the time. Sessions in your home are incredibly organic and natural! On the other hand, newborn sessions in a studio have a totally different vibe. However, as I said, for a session in your home you do need to have abundant natural light. It is also important that your home is somewhat of a tidy place!
As an experienced lifestyle newborn photographer, I get a lot of questions about how to prepare and what to expect! Therefore, I will answer a few of those commonly asked questions here.
This is a great question. Of course, everyone loves those sleepy newborn photos. As an experienced lifestyle newborn photographer, I can tell you that MOST babies will sleep for the majority of their session. However, babies are unpredictable! It is also totally normal for a baby to NOT want to sleep during their session, no matter how many tricks I have in my bag! This is why I highly suggest to anyone who is dying for those “sleepy newborn pictures” that they book a three hour session with me. I recently had a shoot where baby was really fighting the sleep, and his lovely mama kept saying “Thank god we booked the three hour session!! I would be so stressed out right now!!”
For couples who are less worried about those perfect sleepy photos, and are more interested in just capturing an hour of life with their newborn, my mini lifestyle newborn package is for them! This is a quick one hour session that documents you interacting with your baby, and possibly some sleepy shots if your baby is feeling sleepy!
For your newborn session, I will send you my customized portrait style guide which will give you all sorts of tips on how to dress for your session! I recommend soft, neutral colors and solids. In fact, in my style guide, I will provide you a list of my favorite dresses for moms to wear! I love Baltic Born, Asos, and Morning Lavender for dresses for moms. Your baby can simply wear a white swaddle (I will bring one!), or simple onesie. Or, you could provide your own cute swaddle!
Great question! As an experienced lifestyle newborn photographer, I have got you covered. As soon as you’ve decided you’d like to book your session with me, simply fill out my online booking form. I recommend reaching out to me as early as possible to make sure I have space available. I will send you an invoice and contract, you’ll need to pay the deposit (50%) in order to secure your spot. Then, you’ll let me know as soon as your baby arrives so we can schedule your exact session date! We will have your session approximately 1-2 weeks after your baby is born.
After you’re booked, I will send you my session Portrait Style Guide that will give you all the tips and tricks you will need to know to have a stress-free session. As an experienced lifestyle newborn photographer, I am very aware of what things photograph nicely. My style guide includes tips on what to wear, colors that photograph beautifully, how to prepare your spouse and other children, and how to prepare your home. Next, will chat by phone, text or email about outfit ideas and hair & makeup artist recommendations should you need them.
You do want to make sure you choose a lifestyle newborn photographer that suits your style! My style of newborn photography is candid and mostly unposed. I will help mamas and dads with posing, and make sure you are looking your best! What I won’t do is put your baby in any special poses! This is because I will capture your baby in an organic way. I will help you wrap them up in a swaddle to soothe them if we need to, or we will take pictures of them un-swaddled if they are happy to sleep that way! Some babies really love being swaddled. In fact, it all depends on the baby!
As a lifestyle newborn photographer, I absolutely LOVE taking pictures of nursing moms! I will 100% take pictures of this if you wish! I of course would refrain from posting any of those pictures on my Instagram or blog, unless you were happy for me to share them!
This is a very common question that I get as a lifestyle newborn photographer! I suggest taking your newborn pictures in your master bedroom and in the nursery. If you have a gorgeous living room or kitchen full of light, those spaces would be wonderful too!
Make sure that you contact me as soon as possible. This is because you need to make sure that I have room in my schedule to accommodate your newborn session! As an experienced lifestyle newborn photographer, I highly suggest a maternity session as well before your little one arrives!
