As a Littleton MA senior photographer serving seniors throughout Massachusetts, I love when clients travel to the South Shore for their senior pictures! Eliza, a senior at Littleton High School, made the trip to the coast for the most gorgeous sunset beach session…. and I’m pretty sure the beach understood the assignment.
Eliza is also an incredible ballet dancer, so naturally, the pointe shoes were coming with us. She has the most relaxed, easygoing personality and was an absolute DREAM to photograph. Nothing felt overly posed or fussy. Just lots of laughing, gorgeous light, bare feet in the sand, and one very photogenic evening at the beach.
And bonus: Eliza brought her mom along, who was just as sweet and lovely as she was. The three of us had such a fun evening together!
We started in the dunes with Eliza’s long blue dress, which turned out to be her favorite outfit of the night. And honestly? She chose wisely.
The blue looked SO pretty against the beach grass, and then we added a bouquet of sunflowers for a little extra color. Blue dress + yellow flowers + dunes + golden light = absolutely no notes. 🌻
And because it was her favorite dress, this was not the last we saw of it. More on that later!

Next up was Eliza’s short white dress and her pointe shoes.
I absolutely LOVE when seniors bring something to their session that represents such a big part of who they are, and for Eliza, that’s ballet. We did a mix of actual dance poses and more relaxed portraits with her pointe shoes, and these ended up being some of my favorites from the entire session.
There is just something about pointe shoes at the beach that works. I don’t make the rules.

We kept the white dress on for a few photos along a weathered beach fence, which gave us a completely different look without even needing another outfit change.
The white dress, sandy path, beach grass and that glowy light were giving classic coastal senior pictures in the very best way. And the black-and-white close-up from this part of her session? LOVE.

Then it was time for a more casual look with jeans and a simple white tank. The timing could not have been better because the light was getting GOOD.
This is exactly why I always love having a casual outfit mixed into a senior session. Nothing complicated, nothing overly styled, just Eliza looking completely like herself in that gorgeous golden light.

We swapped the white tank for a maroon one for Eliza’s laying-down portraits in the sand, and I love the little pop of deeper color it added to her gallery.

Okay, not in the water. But definitely close enough that getting your jeans wet becomes a very real possibility.
We brought the jeans and white tank down to the shoreline for some casual barefoot portraits by the ocean, and I love how different these feel from the golden field images in the exact same outfit.
This is one of my favorite things about beach senior sessions: we can create SO much variety in one evening. Dunes, beach grass, fences, sand, ocean, sunset, and no driving all over creation required.
Remember that favorite blue dress?
Of COURSE we brought it back.
By this point, the bright golden light had faded and the sky was turning the prettiest soft shades of peach and pink. Eliza changed back into her favorite dress, headed to the water, and we finished her session with the dreamiest pastel sunset.
And this is exactly why wearing the same outfit twice can absolutely be worth it. The blue dress in the sunny dunes and the blue dress at the water during sunset feel like two completely different looks.
She knew what she was doing when she picked that dress!

One of my favorite things about being a Littleton MA senior photographer for families willing to make the trip is showing seniors that their pictures don’t have to happen in their hometown!
If what you really want is beach grass, dunes, ocean, golden light and a pastel sunset, come to the South Shore and let’s make it happen. Eliza traveled from Littleton for exactly that, and I think it’s safe to say it was worth the drive.
So if you found me while searching for a Littleton MA senior photographer but have your heart set on senior pictures at the beach, you are absolutely in the right place. Bring the outfits you love, bring something that feels like you (pointe shoes very much encouraged 🩰), bring your mom, and I’ll take care of the rest. 🤍
Many of my clients ask me, “When is the best time of year for senior pictures?”. Most of my seniors love late July, August, or early September. However, my personal favorite months are late September and October. The air is crisper, and the humidity and bugs have calmed down. Additionally, the chance of pop-up thunderstorms drops way down, and the light turns extra golden. This makes everything feel dreamy and effortless.
If your school requires a senior portrait for the yearbook, you’ll want to plan your session for the summer before senior year or early fall of senior year. The most important thing to remember? Book your date as soon as possible! I recommend booking at least four months in advance – ideally by April or May of junior year. Many of my clients even use our priority booking system to reserve their session a full year ahead of time! Priority Booking means you’ll reserve your preferred month for senior portraits, place your deposit, and be officially guaranteed a spot during that month. Your exact session date will be selected in April.
