If you’re searching for Rhode Island senior pictures at the beach, you don’t necessarily have to stay in Rhode Island! Cullen and his family made the trip from Rhode Island to the South Shore of Massachusetts for his senior portrait session, and I’m so happy they did.
We photographed Cullen at one of my favorite South Shore coastal locations. I was able to get so much variety in one session! We started with the gorgeous green marsh. After that, we made our way toward the beach, using the dunes, rocky shoreline, sand and water along the way. It’s one of the reasons I love photographing senior sessions on the South Shore. You can create completely different looks without spending the evening driving from location to location!
And Cullen absolutely made my job easy. He has the BEST smile, and his photos somehow manage to feel both polished and completely relaxed at the same time. This is exactly what I want for my senior guys!

Cullen’s outfits are also such a good example of what to wear for senior pictures at the beach. He chose a mix of white, cream, tan and soft blue, and the entire color palette worked beautifully with the neutral tones of the sand and water.
His white linen look was especially perfect for the beach. It feels classic and elevated without being overly dressed up, and I love that we could photograph it in several different ways—from more traditional senior portraits to barefoot walking photos along the shoreline.
His light blue shirt and neutral shorts gave us a second look that was a little more casual while still coordinating beautifully with the setting. If you’re planning senior pictures for a guy and have no idea what he should wear, you really cannot go wrong with simple, well-fitting pieces in soft coastal colors.

We also made sure to incorporate soccer into Cullen’s session. I always love when seniors bring something that represents an important part of their high school years. Whether that’s a sport, instrument or another activity they love, it always makes the session special. The goal isn’t to turn the entire session into a themed photoshoot. A few images are enough to capture that piece of who they are right now, while still giving you a gallery filled with timeless senior portraits. For Cullen, we headed into the marsh with his soccer ball. I love how naturally those images fit into the rest of his gallery.

Most of my seniors come from the South Shore and surrounding Massachusetts towns. However, I also photograph seniors who travel from all over the east coast for their sessions! Cullen came from Rhode Island specifically for his senior portraits. The South Shore is such an easy choice for families who want that quintessential New England coastal look.
So if you found this post while searching for Rhode Island senior pictures at the beach, just know that crossing the state line opens up even more possibilities! The South Shore of Massachusetts has some absolutely gorgeous options for senior portraits, particularly if you love beaches, marshes, dunes and soft coastal scenery.
Cullen, I loved getting to photograph you and am so glad you and your family made the trip to Massachusetts for your senior pictures. This was SUCH a good one!
Many of my clients ask me, “When is the best time of year for senior pictures?” Most of my seniors love late July, August, or early September. However, my personal favorite months are late September and October. The air is crisper, and the humidity and bugs have calmed down. Additionally, the chance of pop-up thunderstorms drops way down, and the light turns extra golden. This makes everything feel dreamy and effortless.
If your school requires a senior portrait for the yearbook, you’ll want to plan your session for the summer before senior year or early fall of senior year. The most important thing to remember? Book your date as soon as possible! I recommend booking at least four months in advance – ideally by April or May of junior year. Many of my clients even use our priority booking system to reserve their session a full year ahead of time! Priority Booking means you’ll reserve your preferred month for senior portraits, place your deposit, and be officially guaranteed a spot during that month. Your exact session date will be selected in April.
