When Amanda reached out about scheduling an artist branding photoshoot in Massachusetts, I knew right away this was going to be a fun one. Amanda is both a talented painter and photographer based in Middlboro, MA, and she arrived at my Scituate studio with six carefully planned outfits, stacks of artwork, painting supplies, cameras, brushes, and more creative props than I could count!
One of my favorite things about branding photography is creating a gallery that truly reflects who someone is. Amanda wears many creative hats, so we designed a session that showcased every side of her business – from artist to photographer, creator to entrepreneur. The result was a gallery full of personality, color, creativity, and professional images she can use across her website, social media, marketing materials, and more.
Before every branding session, I work closely with my clients to create a detailed plan. We discuss their business goals, ideal clients, where the images will be used, outfit selections, props, and the overall feeling they want their brand to convey.
Amanda came incredibly prepared. She had a clear vision, a variety of outfits that reflected different aspects of her work, and enough props to tell a complete visual story. Having multiple outfits and meaningful props allowed us to create a gallery with incredible variety while still feeling cohesive and intentional.
We started with one of my favorite looks of the day: Amanda’s paint-splattered pants paired with a soft striped sweater. This outfit instantly communicated “working artist.”
Surrounded by her original artwork in shades of aqua, blue, and sea glass, Amanda sat among her paintings, brushes, canvases, and supplies. These images feel creative, approachable, and authentic. They show the real artist behind the work and provide the kind of storytelling content that works beautifully on websites, about pages, newsletters, and social media.
I especially love how her artwork became part of the set design. Rather than simply photographing the finished pieces, we incorporated them into the story of her creative process.

Next, Amanda changed into a structured sleeveless denim dress that felt polished while still artistic.
With her paintings displayed behind her, we created a series of portraits that highlight her confidence, professionalism, and expertise. These images strike a wonderful balance between artist and business owner. They feel elevated enough for a website homepage while still maintaining the warmth and personality that make Amanda so relatable.
This section of the session gave us strong personal branding images that clients can instantly connect with.
One thing I always encourage during an artist branding shoot is capturing real action.
Amanda changed into a black tank paired with colorful floral pants and got to work. We photographed her actively painting, holding brushes, sitting at her work table, and interacting with her materials.
These images are perfect examples of why action shots are so valuable in branding photography. Rather than simply showing what someone looks like, they show what they do.
We also captured close-up details of paint-covered tools, brushes, palettes, and works in progress. These supporting images are often some of the most useful photographs in a branding gallery because they provide visual variety for websites, blog posts, and social media content.

One of the things that made Amanda’s session so successful was the attention to detail.
We photographed:
These types of images help tell a complete brand story. They may not be traditional portraits, but they are often the photographs that bring a website or Instagram feed to life.

For her next look, Amanda paired a white top with green patterned pants against the bright white studio backdrop.
These images feel light, fresh, and approachable. The clean setting allows Amanda’s personality to shine while providing versatile content that can work nearly anywhere… from website headers to speaking engagements to social media announcements.
The simplicity of these portraits creates a beautiful contrast with some of the more colorful, art-focused imagery we created earlier in the session.

Because Amanda is also a photographer, it was important to create images that reflected that side of her work as well.
Her blue crinkle top paired with floral pants photographed beautifully in the natural light studio. We incorporated her camera throughout this portion of the session, creating images of her reviewing photos, holding her camera, relaxing with it, and interacting naturally with her equipment.
Some of my favorite photographs from this set feel candid and effortless – exactly the kind of imagery that helps potential clients feel like they already know and trust the person behind the business.
We even captured a few playful moments that perfectly reflect Amanda’s personality and sense of humor.

Amanda’s session is a perfect example of why I love when clients bring multiple outfits.
With six thoughtfully selected looks, we were able to create photographs that show:
Instead of receiving a gallery that feels repetitive, Amanda now has an extensive collection of images that can support her marketing for months (or even years) to come.
Whether you’re a painter, photographer, designer, maker, coach, author, or creative entrepreneur, a professional artist branding photoshoot can completely transform the way you show up online.
Your branding photos should tell your story, showcase your personality, and help potential clients understand exactly what makes you unique.
Amanda’s session was the perfect blend of artistry, professionalism, and fun. Between the paintings, brushes, cameras, colorful props, outfit changes, and plenty of laughter throughout the day, we created a gallery that feels completely authentic to who she is.
Amanda, thank you for making the trip from Middleboro to my Scituate studio and for trusting me to bring your creative vision to life. It was such a joy photographing every side of your incredible business.
