Some branding sessions feel special the moment they begin. Monica’s was one of those sessions—the kind that reminds you why storytelling through imagery matters so deeply. Monica came into her branding session with a powerful story, a clear vision, and a deep intention behind every detail. She needed imagery that would support her upcoming book, Maybe You’re a Zebra, as well as content for both her book-focused social media and her public speaking platform. What we created together was a cohesive branding gallery that feels grounded, hopeful, and deeply human—just like Monica herself.

The Story Behind Maybe You’re a Zebra

Monica’s book, Maybe You’re a Zebra, tells the story of her life as a high-powered executive that was suddenly derailed by debilitating medical issues. She suffered from extreme migraines that eventually made it impossible for her to function in daily life or continue working.

After seeing doctor after doctor… and being repeatedly told that nothing was wrong… Monica made a brave and life-altering decision: she took her health into her own hands. She spent months doing extensive research, traveling across the country, and seeking out specialists willing to look beyond the obvious.

That’s when she finally received answers.

A specialist discovered that Monica’s spine had partially collapsed—something she was likely born with—and explained a concept that became central to her journey. Most doctors are trained to look for “horses,” or common diagnoses. But sometimes, a patient is a “zebra” – a rare case that requires a different lens and deeper investigation.

That realization changed everything. And today, Monica uses her voice to help others trust themselves, ask better questions, and keep searching when something doesn’t feel right.

As a Cohasset MA branding photographer, it was important to me that her images honored this journey with honesty and dignity, without ever feeling heavy or limiting.

A Joy-Filled Studio Branding Session in Scituate

We photographed about 85% of Monica’s branding session in my light-filled Scituate studio, where she arrived with the most thoughtfully curated wardrobe and props.

Her outfits were elegant, intentional, and beautifully layered:

• tailored blazers and modern silhouettes for her speaking work
• soft, feminine blouses with lace and delicate details
• flowing fabrics and refined neutrals that photographed timelessly

Each look felt polished yet approachable; perfectly aligned with her message.

Monica also brought meaningful props, including books, writing elements, and her neck brace—something she wore daily for the past year following surgery. While she is now able to go without it for part of the day, her surgery means she will never again be able to turn her head or look down.

Including this piece of her story was important. As a Cohasset MA branding photographer, my goal is always to create branding imagery that feels truthful and empowering—never performative.

Despite the gravity of her journey, the studio was filled with laughter. Monica brought such warmth and joy into the space that the session felt light, energizing, and deeply affirming.

The Stones: A Daily Practice of Intention

One of the most meaningful details we photographed was Monica’s collection of beautiful stones, which she discovered while on vacation.

Each stone is engraved with a single word. Every morning, Monica picks one up, flips it over, and lets that word guide how she lives that day… whether it’s gratitude, strength, patience, or hope.

It’s a simple ritual, but a powerful one. And it perfectly reflects how Monica approaches life now: intentionally, mindfully, and with deep appreciation for each day.

Coastal Branding at Scituate Lighthouse

After our studio time, we headed to the Scituate Lighthouse for coastal branding portraits.

The lighthouse setting felt symbolic: steady, open, and grounded. The soft coastal light and classic New England textures added depth and visual variety to Monica’s branding gallery while reinforcing a sense of calm and clarity.

These images are some of the most tender from the day. Relaxed, authentic, and deeply personal, they show Monica exactly as she is at home. Surrounded by comfort, love, and the quiet moments that supported her through some of her hardest days.

Monica’s branding session was a reminder that strength doesn’t have to be loud. Sometimes it’s quiet, steady, joyful, and deeply inspiring.
