When it comes to photographing seniors, there are few places more magical than Nantucket. Between the soft golden light, rolling dunes, and wide-open beaches, it’s a dream backdrop for portraits that feel both timeless and coastal. Jack’s senior session was the perfect example of why Nantucket senior pictures are always worth the ferry ride for me!
If you are new to my blog, welcome! I’m Christina Runnals, a South Shore photographer specializing in photography that is light-filled and natural. I reside in Scituate, MA with my husband and two little boys. My blog is a place where I showcase all of my latest and greatest sessions! Jack is a senior at East Longmeadow High School and an amazing soccer player. For his senior session, his parents and cousins came along to join the fun – turning it into not only a senior shoot but also a memory-filled family experience. Including loved ones in a senior session is always a great way to capture this exciting milestone while creating photos the whole family will treasure.

I had the best time venturing out to Nantucket for this session. The ferry became my floating office for the day (one of the best perks of this job!), and I got to enjoy strolling through town a little before and after the shoot. There’s something about arriving on the island, taking in the cobblestone streets and coastal charm, that makes the whole day feel extra special.
While I don’t live on Nantucket, I do travel there for sessions several times a year. My travel fees for Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard can be viewed online here.

For Jack’s photos, we headed to Dionis Beach – a quiet, beautiful spot that is one of my favorite hidden gems on the island. The soft dunes and golden sunset created the perfect setting for portraits that were both relaxed and natural. Jack looked amazing in his light, classic outfit, which paired perfectly with the warm coastal tones of the evening.
From walking along the shoreline to sitting in the grass-covered dunes as the sun dipped behind the horizon, every frame captured that effortless Nantucket vibe. These are exactly the kind of images that make Nantucket senior pictures stand out—they’re filled with light, movement, and the unmistakable charm of island life.
One of my favorite parts of Jack’s session was including family portraits. In just about ten minutes, we were able to capture sibling photos, family photos, and even group shots of Jack with all of his cousins! Jack’s mom, Melissa, wore the most stunning yellow dress for their family pictures, and I just know she will cherish those images forever.
Adding a family portrait session onto your senior package is simple – you can select it as an add-on during the booking process. It’s such a meaningful way to document not only this milestone for your senior but also your whole family at this stage of life.

If you’re dreaming of senior portraits that are unique, timeless, and full of natural beauty, Nantucket is the perfect choice. Whether we’re at Dionis, Madaket, or Sconset, the beaches and landscapes of the island provide endless opportunities for stunning photos. Plus, making a day of it – whether it’s exploring town, grabbing an ice cream, or inviting your family along – adds so much meaning to the experience.

Jack’s session was everything I love about photographing seniors: a beautiful location, a relaxed and confident senior, and a chance to capture not just portraits, but moments that tell a story. His Nantucket senior pictures will be ones he and his family can look back on for years to come.
If you’re considering booking your own Nantucket senior session, I’d love to help you plan the perfect day on the island. Reach out, and let’s make it happen!
If your school requires a senior portrait for the yearbook, you’ll want to plan your session for the summer before senior year or early fall of senior year. The most important thing to remember? Reach out as soon as possible to reserve your date! I recommend booking at least four months in advance – ideally by April or May of junior year. Many of my clients even pre-book up to a full year ahead to guarantee a prime spot on my calendar.
Many of my clients ask me, “When is the best time of year for senior pictures?” While most of my seniors love late July, August, or early September, my personal favorite months are late September and October. The air is crisper, the humidity and bugs have calmed down, the chance of pop-up thunderstorms drops way down, and the light turns extra golden – making everything feel dreamy and effortless.
