The Quest for the Perfect Month

So you’re gearing up for graduation from a Massachusetts high school and you’re asking yourself, “When’s the best month to take senior pictures in Massachusetts?” Well, look no further! Let’s break down each month, in order, to help you figure out when to shine bright like the star you are.

January through March: Freeze Frame!

Ah, the cold months. January through March aren’t exactly crown jewels for outdoor senior pictures. Why? Because it’s downright frigid! However, if you have a thing for winter wonderlands, a snowy backdrop could give your photos a unique flair. Just think about it: you in a cozy sweater with frosted trees in the background. However, for those who’d rather keep their fingers from turning into icicles, a studio session could be your warm and toasty savior!

April: Weather or Not…

April is like that friend who can’t decide between pizza or sushi. One day it’s bright and blooming, the next it’s gray and gloomy. While you might envision yourself surrounded by flowering trees, don’t be surprised if most of the month is a bit of a garden-variety letdown. If the weather decides to play hard to get, the studio is still a savvy option. We can whip up a setting that’s floral and fab or super simple—your call! Another option is to shoot at a location that isn’t dependent on foliage or florals – such as your high school!

May: Blooming Good Time

Now we’re talking! Once May rolls in, it’s like the party really begins for outdoor senior portraits. Picture flowering trees, lush green fields, and yes, those empty beaches – paradise! Just keep in mind that temperatures can be a little chillier than you’d expect. So grab that cap and gown; you deserve to strut your stuff!

June: Sunshine State of Mind

June is like May’s fiery younger sibling. The sun is out, beaches are perfect, and you can pack away those sweaters for a while! Want your senior photos to reflect your bright personality? Bring along your cap and gown or maybe some future college gear to amp up your portraits. Just make sure to avoid getting sunburned in the process!

July: Sizzling Senior Sessions

Here comes the rush! July is a top pick for seniors—those incoming seniors will be flocking in! With gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, golden skin tones, and a great vibe, July can easily vie for the title “best month to take senior pictures.” Of course, there are downsides like humidity and those pesky beach bugs called greenheads, plus the occasional surprise thunderstorm. But hey, what’s summer without a little excitement?

August: Hot and Humid, But Worth It

Feeling that summer heat? August is also a heavy hitter for senior portraits! With everything that makes July wonderful also on the table (minus a few of the thunderstorms), you can still show off your beach vibes. Just remember: if you don’t want to look like a sweaty mess in your photos, sunrise sessions might be the way to go. Plus, your tan should be at its peak—no tan lines allowed!

September: My Personal Fav Best Month to Take Senior Pictures

You had me at September! This month is the last of the top three for senior pictures, and honestly, it’s a dream. With beach crowds gone, the grasses turn golden, and the goldenrod flowers bloom, you’ll be surrounded by natural beauty. Add in the cooler weather and lack of pesky bugs, and you’ve got a recipe for pure photo perfection!

October: Fall-ing for You

October may not make the “Big 3,” but it’s definitely a contender! Picture that gorgeous autumn light, empty beaches, and the freedom to mix summer styles with cozy fall outfits. Think chunky knits, boots, and maybe some retro vibes. With colors changing all around, you’ll have everything you need for a fantastic photoshoot!

November & December: Unconventional Takes

Finally, don’t count November and December out! While they may sound like an unusual choice, they offer opportunities too. November still has stunning beach options, and those tall golden grasses are a sight to behold. December may be iffy at the beach, but if you can brave the chill, the golden autumn light is still a winner. Embrace the unique charm of these chillier months!

Pick Your Perfect Month

So there you have it! The best month for your senior pictures in Massachusetts boils down to your personal style and preference. Each month has its quirks and perks—choose wisely and you’ll capture memories that last a lifetime! Now go out there and own that photoshoot season!

Scheduling Your Senior Pictures

If you will need your senior pictures for your yearbook, you’ll want to have them taken the summer before your senior year or the autumn of your senior year. Do keep in mind that you should contact me as SOON as possible to schedule. I recommend booking at least 4 months in advance. In other words, you should ideally have your session scheduled by April or May of your junior year. However, I often have clients pre-book their session as early as an entire YEAR in advance! This is because they want to make sure they secure a prime spot.

The Best Month to Take Senior Pictures

Many of my clients ask “Okay Christina, really, WHICH month is the best month to take senior pictures!?” As I said above, overall, my high school senior ladies prefer late July, August, or early September for their pictures. On the other hand, I personally prefer late September or October! It’s consistently less humid, less sticky, less buggy, less chance for sudden thunderstorms, and more golden :-). If you’re booking at the last minute and can’t get the date you want, don’t worry, there is also an option to book a sunrise session or mid-day session! In addition, you should also absolutely add your name to my waitlist.
