Alana’s Senior Portraits: A Sunrise Session to Remember

Hey there, friends! I’m over the moon to share Alana’s senior portraits with you today! If you’re new here, I’m Christina Runnals, a Hingham MA senior photographer. My expertise lies in capturing that natural and luminous beauty we all chase after in our photos. I live in Scituate with my husband and two little boys who keep life exciting (and a bit chaotic!). This blog is my canvas for showcasing the latest and greatest sessions, so don’t forget to check out the homepage if you want to learn about booking your very own senior session!

Meet Alana

Meet Alana, a true superstar at Hingham High School! Not only does she excel in academics, but she also tears up the indoor track—talk about a multi-talented individual! For her senior portraits, Alana had her heart set on two stunning locations: the beach at sunrise and a picturesque flower farm in Norwell, aptly named Cross Street Flower Farm. Spoiler alert: both locations delivered spectacular results!

The Beach at Dawn

We kicked off our session the right way—bright and early on a warm July morning. Alana’s fabulous mom, Laura, came along to provide moral support. Laura was Alana’s biggest cheerleader, but don’t worry, she knew just the right distance to keep to let Alana shine on her own! Alana started in a lovely satin periwinkle blue gown that danced beautifully with the soft orange hues of the sunrise. It made for a perfect scene, with a beautiful subject and nature putting on its own show.

Why Sunrise Sessions Are Totally Worth It

Okay, a quick detour into why sunrise is the best time for senior pictures! Firstly, the soft light is to die for! It’s like nature’s built-in filter. Secondly, there are fewer people around, which means Alana could flaunt her style without feeling shy about those curious beachgoers. It’s the perfect recipe for capturing those radiant, genuine smiles, and trust me, we got plenty of those! And thirdly, the humidity is vastly lessoned at sunrise vs. sunset in the summe time. As an experienced Hingham MA senior photographer, I personally adore shooting at sunrise.

Fun, Sand, and Waves

As we journeyed through the beach shots, we captured Alana walking gracefully through the waves and playing in the sand. Can you say stunning? Yes, we totally can! Alana’s periwinkle gown flowing against the backdrop of the sea made for some truly unforgettable shots.

Style Switch at the Flower Farm

Next up was a wardrobe change, and Alana went for wide-leg jeans and a cream t-shirt. We moved to some beautiful green grass and the sand dunes for this relaxed look. But we didn’t stop there! The real treat awaited us at Cross Street Flower Farm, where Alana continued rocking that outfit. Picture flowers basking in the sunlight and butterflies fluttering about—it was a scene straight out of a feel-good movie. Laura had even arranged for a vibrant bouquet, bringing even more color and joy to our session. As a Hingham MA senior photographer, I was in photographer heaven!

The Sundress Finale

To finish the session with a bang, Alana donned a cute white sundress. Her calm and elegant demeanor really brought an air of sophistication to the photos. It was clear that Alana and I were vibing well, and I couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. Big shoutout and congrats to Alana on her senior year!

Scheduling Your Senior Pictures

If you will need your senior pictures for your yearbook, you’ll want to have them taken the summer before your senior year or the autumn of your senior year. Do keep in mind that you should contact me as SOON as possible to schedule. I recommend booking at least 4 months in advance. In other words, you should ideally have your session scheduled by April or May of your junior year. However, I often have clients pre-book their session as early as an entire YEAR in advance! This is because they want to make sure they secure a prime spot.

The Best Time of Year to Schedule A Hingham MA Photographer

Many of my clients ask “Which month IS a prime spot for senior pictures?” Overall, my high school senior ladies prefer late July, August, or early September for their pictures. On the other hand, I personally prefer late September or October! It’s consistently less humid, less sticky, less buggy, less chance for sudden thunderstorms, and more golden :-). If you’re booking at the last minute and can’t get the date you want, don’t worry, there is also an option to book a sunrise session or mid-day session! In addition, you should also absolutely add your name to my waitlist.
