How to Plan for Newborn Pictures
I would love to let you know more about my planning process for a session!
Booking Hingham Massachusetts Newborn Pictures
As soon as you’ve decided you’d like to book your session with me, fill out the booking form. I recommend reaching out to me as early as possible to make sure I have space available. I will send you an invoice and contract, you’ll need to pay the deposit (50%) in order to secure your spot. Then, you’ll let me know when your baby arrives so we can schedule your exact session date!
Planning Your Session
After you’re booked, I will send you my Newborn Session Guide which will give you all the tips and tricks you will need to know to have a stress-free session, including what to wear, colors that photograph beautifully, how to prepare your spouse and other children, and how to prepare your home. We will chat by phone, text, or email about outfit ideas and hair & makeup artist recommendations should you need them.
Your session will take place in your home 1-3 weeks after your baby has arrived. I can bring several items upon request, including a basket and several beautiful swaddles and blankets. All items are completely optional to use for your newborn pictures! Most parents opt to dress their baby in a special outfit or wrap them in their own swaddle. I will happily swaddle your baby for you.
I carefully edit your images in my signature bright, light, and airy style with the latest high-end editing software. Within 1-3 weeks, your images will be emailed to you in a private online gallery where you can easily download them or order prints and products!
What to Wear for Newborn Pictures
For your baby’s newborn session, I suggest a long flowy dress for mom. This is because this type of dress is incredibly flattering to the female figure. I have several favorite places to purchase this type of dress! I love the websites Nothing Fits But, Morning Lavender, and Free People. In addition, I love Pink Blush. If you are self-conscious about certain parts of your body do keep that in mind when choosing your outfit. For me, I am self-conscious about my arms, so I prefer dresses that cover my arms! In addition, I recommend light, neutral colors for your session. These colors photograph beautifully, and will also not cast odd colors onto your skin. I will help you to choose your wardrobe if you’d like, and you will also have access to my amazing online styling program.
Frequently Asked Questions
As a newborn photographer for the last 5 years, I indeed get questions all the time. I would love to share with you some of my most frequently asked newborn questions, and do my best to answer them all!
Does the price of our session include digital images?
Yes. After your session, I will edit your images in my signature light and natural style. You will receive a link to a beautiful online gallery of your images. These images are all in high resolution and you may download them at any time.
When should we book our Hingham Massachusetts newborn pictures? Before or after our baby is born?
I am always honored to be in quite high demand. Therefore, I always suggest you book a session with me well in advance of your due date. I limit my newborn sessions to several due dates per month. However. Because of the nature of newborn sessions being during the daytime hours (vs. in the evening when my outdoor sessions typically take place), I do have some wiggle room. You should absolutely reach out to me even if you didn’t schedule your session ahead of time! I can often take a last-minute newborn client if the stars align!
Do you travel beyond Hingham for sessions?
Yes! I am honored to have clients from all over the state and the east coast reach out to me! I do charge a fee to travel further than 15 miles from where I live, in Scituate. You will be able to view all of my travel fees when you go to book your session.
Do you bring anything along with you?
For your newborn pictures, I will bring along a few items. I will bring several beautiful swaddles should we need them. Upon request, I can also bring a beautiful changing basket! I will also bring along a few other newborn tricks of the trade.
What should we (and our baby!) wear for our session?
Soft pastels and light & neutral colors photograph seamlessly with my light and natural photography style. Once you confirm your booking, I will send you a complimentary style guide. This guide will take you through the whole process and help you to coordinate your wardrobe. I want you to look your best so that you can cherish your portraits for a lifetime! For your baby, I recommend a white or light-colored swaddle. If you’d like your baby to wear an outfit, I suggest chunky knits that are tight-fitting. Newborns will appear to be “swimming” in many baby outfits, so you do need to ensure their outfit is small enough so that it does not bunch up during the pictures.
Will you wrap up my baby and pose him or her?
I will gladly wrap your baby up. I do not overly pose your newborn; instead, I let him or her settle organically to produce the most natural images.
How much should we expect to spend on Hingham Massachusetts newborn pictures?
You can view my pricing online here!
Can we include our pets?
Your pet is a special part of your family, so I am happy to incorporate them into your session! I recommend planning for your pet to be at the first part of your session and then having a friend take him/her somewhere else, or keeping the dog at home but away from all the action. We won’t use the pet in every single photo so it’s also nice to have a friend available to hold him or her in between shots. If you’re going to incorporate a pet, I recommend exercising your pet before the session and having your pet’s favorite toy or treats handy! Depending on your pet’s fur type, it might also be a good idea to groom them before the shoot and have a lint roller nearby to keep your clothes looking fresh.
