Frequently Asked Questions for a South Shore Massachusetts Newborn Photographer

I get all sorts of questions about newborn sessions! I would love to share them here with you all today, along with my best answers.

When should I schedule my newborn session with you? Before or after baby is born?

Great question! It’s definitely best to schedule ahead of time, but I typically can take one “last minute” newborn booking per month. This is particularly true in the winter and early spring when my schedule is a little lighter! I recommend booking your session when you are about 2 months out from your due date. I do only take two or three newborn sessions per month, and some months fill up faster than others!

Where do newborn sessions take place?

I only offer lifestyle newborn sessions at the moment. These sessions take place in your home, about 1-2 weeks after your baby is born. As an experienced South Shore Massachusetts newborn photographer, I will send you a thorough guide on how to prepare your home be its most photogenic!

What if my home is not great for pictures?

Some of my clients worry that their homes aren’t suitable because they have dark walls, or too many toys laying around, etc. I can always find a way to make something work! Here you can see a whole session that I did in a dark basement, right next to a large door! I even set up a makeshift “bed” on the floor for a cozy vibe 😉

What should we wear for our session with a South Shore Massachusetts newborn photographer?

For your session, I suggest light and neutral colors. Try to get your husband to wear khakis (pants not shorts) rather than jeans. I suggest mamas wear a long comfy dress, rather than a short dress. For baby, I recommend a light colored swaddle or well-fitting onesie. This is also something I address in my guide I send to my clients!

How old should baby be for our newborn pictures?

I suggest your baby be between 1 and 3 weeks old for your newborn pictures. This is because after about 2 or 3 weeks, baby acne may start to appear and the peach fuzz will start to disappear! However, I have done sessions with many “older babies,” up to 6 and even 8 weeks old.
