Before we get started, one last thing. I have created a FREE guide for you on what NOT to wear for your senior pictures! Download it today to make sure you don’t make any of my top six major mistakes

And without further ado… my top tips for what to wear for your senior portraits!

1. Neutrals, Creams, and Whites

Perhaps you’ve noticed that many seniors on my website or instagram feed are wearing light, neutral, or pastel colors. There is a reason for this! A photographer’s best friend is light. Light is my “paint” if you will. I use it to get a very specific look. When you wear light clothing, the sunlight bounces around, reflects back into your face and anyone who is around you, creating a beautiful glow. It flatters your skin – making it creamier, and hiding flaws.   As an experienced Marshfield senior photographer, I can tell you that it also helps create the overall aesthetic of the photo. For this reason, I suggest wearing neutrals, creams or whites at your session!

2. Dresses with Movement

Dresses really helps create that timeless look. I highly recommend dresses with a flowy skirt to them! Flowy skirts create the look of movement in your photos. Movement in photos draws in the eye and gives your pictures that extra something special. One local shop that I love for cute dresses are Cattivo which has locations in North Scituate and Hingham. I also love the online shops Hello Molly, Asos, and Lulus.

3. The Classic: Jeans and a White Top

Almost all of my senior girls love to bring along one outfit that consists of jeans and a cute white top! This outfit is classic and timeless. Additionally, the white top follows the rule of wearing a neutral color! Being a Marshfield senior photographer for 5 years, I can tell you that you can’t go wrong with the jeans and white top combo! Not to mention, it’s a super easy outfit to throw together, right?!

4. A Pop of Color! | Styling tips from a pro Marshfield senior photographer

Although I LOVE neutrals and highly encourage/prefer them, it’s also more than okay (and fun!) to add a pop of color to your shoot! Check out these amazing examples of pops of color from my most recent seniors! These girls nailed it!

5. Accessories! | Hats, Belts, and Bangles Oh My!

During a senior session, or any photo shoot, the more accessories the merrier! When planning your outfits, don’t forget to plan accessories! Hats, a statement belt, stacks of bangles, long necklaces, statement pieces, scarves, bright shoes, and other add-ons can make or break an outfit! Your Marshfield senior photographer should be able to incorporate these accessories by posing you with them in fun ways!

6. An Oversized Sweater

An oversized sweater photographs so beautifully. This light blueish-purple number worn by Riley was one of my favorites ever, it added so much texture and dimension to her portraits!

7. For the Guys | What to Wear for Guy Senior Pictures

For the gents getting their senior pictures done, you can’t go wrong with a light colored button down and khakis. Additionally, you could add in a jacket or a tie for some extra flare. I personally love pants over shorts, as shorts can create a juvenile look in pictures. Closed toe shoes are a must for your senior pictures, unless you are on the beach of course!

A t-shirt and jacket can also look seriously amazing! As an experienced Marshfield senior photographer, I absolutely love this casual type of look when paired with an urban or downtown background.

The Most Important Thing To Wear

And of course, the most important thing you can wear is a natural smile! Don’t worry, we will have so much fun at your shoot, you won’t even have to try to smile! Your session with me will be relaxed and laidback, no need to feel uptight or nervous.
