In the end, we made a last minute pivot to early morning instead. Thank goodness we did, because there was a HUGE heat wave in town the day we took these! Planning for Minot Beach Pictures

The best time to take beach pictures (or any pictures!) is at that magical “golden hour” we all hear about! BUT, as any parent of young children knows, it is *just * not always possible to take photos an hour after sunrise or an hour before sunset. This is especially true in the summer when sunrise is very early and sunset is very late! Therefore, I oftentimes in the summer will do sessions outside of the golden hour. Taking photos in a bright atmosphere is definitely a challenge. As a professional Scituate photographer, I am fortunately very skilled in taking pictures at many times of day! You can tell just by the Mitchell’s shadows that we took these pictures in quite bright sunlight.

What to Wear for Your Photo Session

What you wear for professional family photos is SO important. Colors and style of clothing are very important. In terms of colors, I always suggest neutrals, whites, or pastels. For moms, I recommend a long flowy dress or skirt. I suggest mom pick her outfit first, and then choose everyone else’s outfit after that. I actually often recommend that you DON’T have anyone in your family match. However, there are some exceptions to this rule and this session is the perfect example of that. The Mitchell’s four daughters all wearing the same simple, gorgeous white dress photographs just beautifully! If you are a client of mine, I will guide you through the outfit planning process!
