Scituate Senior Pictures

I am so excited to share Hannah’s Scituate senior pictures with you all! Hannah is the sweetest and I loved meeting her and her mother. We had so much fun! Hannah described herself to me as having a boho and relaxed style. She made AMAZING style choices for her session! I will delve into that later in my post! For now, start scrolling through some of my favorite images from Hannah’s session!

What to Wear for Senior Pictures

As I said, Hannah chose perfect pieces for her shoot. Choosing what you will wear for your photo shoot is a huge decision that can make or break your senior portrait session! If you accidentally wear something that isn’t flattering on camera or something that you don’t feel confident in it can ruin the experience for you! So, here I will lay out some tips for how to pick out your outfits for your Scituate senior pictures.

Be Comfortable!

If you do not like fitted clothing (super tight dresses or tops) then leave them at home! If there are pieces in your closet that make you feel self-conscious or uncomfortable, don’t include them in your senior portrait wardrobe! Additionally, we will most likely be sitting on the ground, laying down, walking, and doing other things that could be difficult if your clothing is uncomfortable! Hannah did a GREAT job of wearing comfortable clothing for her Scituate senior pictures!

Be Conscious of What Colors You Wear

The camera loves sophisticated colors. I recommend light-colored neutrals, pastels, or jewel tones for your Scituate senior pictures. When choosing colors for your outfits, I recommend selecting lighter, neutral tones and more muted shades. Bright, bold or neon colors are distracting and take the focus away from where it should be: YOU! A neon shade or bold shade will also reflect strange colors back up onto your face. Because of this, your skin tone could look strange in your photos. You can never go wrong with light neutral colors like cream, taupe, camel or light gray. The camera loves shades of soft pinks and muted blues, mixed with sophisticated light-colored neutrals. That softer, more pastel-leaning color palette fits beautifully into almost all natural outdoor environments. I personally adore whites and beiges, and Hannah hit this out of the park!

Be Timeless

For your Scituate senior pictures, don’t worry about the latest fashion trends when choosing your outfits! To be honest, the baggy, hole-y jeans just do NOT flatter anyone’s figure! I could tell Hannah is extremely fashionable, and she still chose to go with a classic white skinny jean, which you CAN’T go wrong with!

Layer it Up for Scituate Senior Pictures

Scituate can have some chilly months! Adding layers to your outfits always looks STUNNING in portraits! A sweater with a flannel underneath paired with a vest and a statement necklace or scarf adds so much dimension to your images and makes for super fun posing options! Even in the warmer months, you can add these layers and dimension by wearing a tank top with a cute sheer cardigan or by throwing a denim jacket over a dress!

Add Some Texture!

Sometimes textures like sequins, furs, and sparkles can be considered “daring” or “over the top,” but in portraits, they are AWESOME! Adding texture to your outfits makes the biggest difference, and it prevents YOUR images from looking dull! Combining textures that you may not normally use together can look amazing. For example sequins and cable knit sweaters, or leather and fur make GREAT pairs! For your Scituate senior pictures, the sky’s the limit when it comes to texture combos!

Accessorize Accessorize Accessorize!

During a senior session, or any photo shoot, the more accessories the merrier! When planning your outfits, don’t forget to plan and bring accessories! Stacks of bangles, long necklaces, statement pieces, scarves, hats, bright shoes, and other add-ons can make or break an outfit! Additionally, accessories also can provide you with something to do with your hands and make for super cute shots for your Scituate senior pictures!

And Finally… Don’t be Afraid to Mix it Up!

When planning your outfits for your Scituate senior pictures, make sure that you have a VARIETY of looks! I tell all of my seniors to choose from these categories: casual, cozy, dressy, school-related, sports-related, preppy, or edgy. I always recommend choosing 2-3 of these categories and finding outfits accordingly. This provides a beautiful array of looks during your Scituate senior pictures, so each outfit looks dramatically different!

Where should I take my Scituate senior pictures?

Outdoor Enivronments

Great question! The location/s of your Scituate senior pictures is completely up to you! If you have looked at my website, you probably notice most of my senior clients love showcasing the natural beauty of our home state. Outdoor, open-air environments are always my first choice. I love shooting in wide-open natural spaces because the light is divine, especially during golden hour. There are great options all around the state, so even if you’ve never seen me photograph in a specific place before, I’m always up for exploring a new spot together! I have all sorts of favorite locations for Scituate senior pictures!

For your Scituate senior pictures location, think outside the box!

When it comes to choosing a location for your senior pictures, don’t be afraid to think outside the box! I encourage you to brainstorm unique places that you might have special access to that most people don’t. For example, maybe you (or someone you know) have access to an amazing location that would otherwise be off-limits, like a beautiful private estate, family ranch, exclusive country club or yacht club, or luxury resort. Spend a few minutes thinking about it and checking around with people in your personal and professional network. Post on Facebook! You may be surprised with what you come up with! If something seems unlikely, just remember, you never know until you ask! If you need some location ideas and inspiration, I have plenty!

Check out my Instagram @christinarunnalsphotography and my blog. If there’s a certain session you really love, just let me know which one and we can go to that location! I do charge a fee to travel outside of 25 miles from Scituate, so just be aware of that!

What should I bring with me to my photo shoot?

When you book senior pictures with me, I will send you a whole LIST of items to bring to your session. If you want your photos to have more of an editorial feel, I suggest bringing a prop or two. Maybe you have access to some larger props that have a real “wow” factor, like a boat, classic car, or vintage bicycle. This is the time to dream a little bit and decide what really feels like you! Props aren’t a must by any means. Some of my seniors love them and go all out. Some pick one or two items to bring, like a bouquet of flowers or sports equipment. Others stick with just their outfits –– and that’s great, too!

I’d like to do two senior picture sessions in two different seasons. Is that possible?

Yes! For your Scituate senior pictures, it can be so fun to do two different sessions throughout the year! You may add on an additional “seasonal” session or mini session for a discounted price!  Contact me for more details. In addition, if you book the Lighthouse Package, it includes a seasonal mini session!
