Keep scrolling to see a few of my favorites from this stunning newborn session featuring adorable little Nico!
I get lots of questions about newborn sessions! Read on for a bunch of my most frequently asked questions and my best answers.
The best part about a lifestyle newborn photography session is that you don’t have to leave your home for your pictures! This is because the pictures are taken right in your own home. Having a newborn is so amazing, but also can be stressful!! Some people choose to have their newborn photos done in a studio. However, that involves packing everything up and driving somewhere. And if you’ve never had a newborn, you might not exactly realize what that entails. Trust me, it is so nice to be nearby all of your own bottles, pacifiers, sanitary supplies for yourself, extra clothing, etc. Additionally, you spend your entire session in the comfort of your own home. This is a big plus for a new mom. After giving birth, you often need many personal and medical items within an arms reach- for yourself and your baby!
For lifestyle newborn photography, I recommend taking your photos primarily in your master bedroom and the nursery. In addition, you can take your photos in any room that has plenty of natural light. You will need to prepare these rooms as best you can by clearing all clutter away. When I arrive, I will survey the scene! I will most likely move a few more things. Sometimes, I will even take items from other places in your house and move them to the rooms we are photographing in! As someone experienced in lifestyle newborn photography, I know exactly what will look l lovely in the background of your photos!
Pictures from a lifestyle newborn photography session will look very different than some other types of newborn photos! As a lifestyle newborn photographer, clients often seek me out for a specific look to their photos. As you can see, my photos are light and natural. Almost all images from your newborn session will be candid, organic moments of you and your baby, or just your baby alone.
If you are looking for images of your baby posed with lots of props, lifestyle newborn photography is probably not what you are looking for! I do not pose the baby. In fact, I keep everything very organic and natural. I love lifestyle newborn photography because of how well it captures the reality of your life! As you can see, even random little things like having your own couch in a photo is special. I don’t know about you, but I love looking back at photos of my childhood and seeing my parent’s old furniture!
In addition, I love lifestyle newborn photography for another reason. Think about how your baby will feel about his or her newborn pictures when they grow up. Will they LOVE a picture of themselves posed perfectly in a frog position, wearing a costume, sitting upon a lily pad or in a bucket or a tiny doll bed? Yes, that is so adorable in the moment LOL… but think about the long term. How much more special will these pictures be someday to your because they capture reality?? They will want to see you in the pictures with them, snuggling them, soothing them, and loving them. To me, that is so incredible and special!
As you can see, of course everyone can be in the pictures! Newborn pictures taken in a studio usually primarily focus on pictures of the baby by themselves. I don’t know about you, but for me, I would much prefer pictures of my family interacting and engaging with our newborn baby. Mothers especially, you need to be in your newborn pictures!! Pretty soon, your phone will be filled with pictures of your baby, and of your spouse interacting with your baby. Unfortunately, most likely you will not be in many of the pictures! Husbands are notoriously bad at taking candid pictures of their wives with their babies LOL! So mamas, get in these photos and I will make you look gorgeous, no matter how tired you might think you look!!!
Firstly, you need to make sure you enlist your husband to clear all the clutter in the spaces you will be taking your photos! This means hiding away all items you do not want in the background of your photos. Don’t worry, I will also help when I arrive. In addition, make sure you have all of your shades completely open in the room we will be taking photos in. In fact, make sure the shades are open in any surrounding rooms as well.
For your lifestyle newborn photography session, I will send you a preparation guide that I have specifically prepared for my clients. It will give you all sorts of advice on how to dress yourself and your baby. I also have a selection of dresses you can borrow from me. In addition to all that, I will provide you with links to many dresses that I know to photograph beautifully. One shop that I highly recommend is Morning Lavender. Morning Lavender has absolutely gorgeous dresses that are usually quite stretchy for new mamas! Use code CHRISTINA21 for 10% off your Morning Lavender purchase!
